Georgia "Gorgeous" MacGeorge grew up in an artistic family. She and her single mother lived in a converted schoolhouse for her childhood and teenage years. She attended private school on a scholarship from the time she was in the 6th grade. She was always brilliant and quite charming, some called her a sociopath.
Around this time, Georgia's mother was diagnosed with cancer. Though her mother is still living to this day, and also fighting the sickness hard- Georgia vowed to use her intelligence to help her mother and others like her.
Due to the strange and misleading grading system of her private high school, Georgia was unable to get an academic scholarship to a university, and could not afford to attend college any other way. However, a childhood acquaintance of hers, Victoria, did not have this problem. From that moment on Georgia despised Victoria.
Using her extreme intelligence and Independence, Georgia began studying on her own. She became extremely involved in Spirituality, Alternative healing, and religion. She quickly realized however, her knowledge would never be respected without an accompanying degree. She therefore deemed herself an "expert" on all subjects.
After tiring of home research, Georgia took to hands on research. She visited Native American reservations, churches of different religious denominations, universities and temples before deciding the ideas of the Great Spirit were her favorite, and the most interesting.
Soon, Georgia got back on track with her goal in mind-helping her mother beat cancer. She met Mac Two shortly after moving back in with her mother and the couple hit it off. Not only was Mac sensitive to Georgia's goals and dreams (even though he might not agree with them) but he was also in a position to influence a large group of animal lovers to over-look the research Georgia was hoping would cure he mother.

Game Playing
Georgia pretends throughout the play that she loves groundhogs. She also pretends her relationship with Mac is entirely fine. She pretends to be an expert in a lot of things like new age psycology but is not.

Humor
Georgia is pretty much humorous for one reason: she thinks she is way too much. She is sooo full of herself and her beliefs (which I'm unsure she actually believes in) that she goes way over the top and becomes increadibly annoying.
The Moment Before
Before the monologue on page 3, Georgia was going through her speach in her head.
Before passing out, Georgia was remembering how hot it was in those seat lodges.
Before the song, Georgia was really hoping they didn't have to sing the stupid groundhog song.
Before speaking when Mac dies, Georgia was about to punch Victoria for even suggesting she give Mac mouth to mouth.
Before everytime she says "some of us have religious beliefs", Georgia gets fed up with the lack of spirituality in the room.
Before "The Great Spirit..." Georgia was being attacked and needing to defend herself.

Conflict
Georgia's life is a giant conflict. She wants to use groundhogs in her studies but is married to a huge lover of the animal. She is also forced to be a part of these meetings, where she must pretend to love the groundhogs. She is interested in Clem, however he is not very smart, and he is also seeing Victoria. She loves Mac but is seeing Clem.
Relationship
MacArthur MacGeorge: Georgia and Mac Mac have been married for a couple of years now. She feels that he is an extremely smart man and that his position of power can advance her career. Whether mac is alive or dead, her place as his wife guarentees her a step up in her quest to establish her alternative healing center.
Clemson Fleming: Georgia began seeing Clem a few months before. She is aware that he has alternative motives, and is also aware that he is not as stupid as he appears. Georgia believes that she made a huge mistake when she took part in her affair with Clemson, and now resents him for it.
Victoria: Georgia not only has a problem with Victoria because of her relationship with Clem, but also because she knows about her intentions with Mac Two.
Father Peter Palermo: Georgia only knew Palermo because he was a friend of Mac. She until this moment was unaware that he is a private investigator and this information comes as a huge shock to her. She has no positive or negitive feelings for him.
Audience: Georgia sees the audience as a group of people she must win over, she doesn't hope they will support her, but she definately wants them off her back. She sees them as a bunch of very dumb-witted people.

A couple of Relevent Native American Practices
Sweat Lodge: This is structure which generates hot moist air, similar to a Finnish sauna. It is used for rituals of purification, for spiritual renewal and of healing, for education of the youth, etc. A sweat lodge may be a small structure made of a frame of saplings, covered with skins, canvas or blanket. A depression is dug in the center into which hot rocks are positioned. Water is thrown on the rocks to create steam. A small flap opening is used to regulate the temperature. As many as a dozen people can be accommodated in some lodges.
Hunting ceremonies: these involve the ritual treatment of a bear or other animal after its killing during a successful hunt. The goal is to appease its spirit and convince other animals to be willing to be killed in the future.
Creation: Individual tribes have differing stories of Creation. One set of themes found in some tribes describes that in the beginning, the world was populated by many people. Most were subsequently transformed into animals. Natives thus feel a close bond with animals because of their shared human ancestry. Dogs are excluded from this relationship. This bond is shown in the frequent rituals in which animal behavior is simulated. Each species has its master; for example, the deer have a master deer who is larger than all the others. The master of humans is the Creator.
